Job Description

This organisation is a well-established retail organisation with a strong presence in the Malaysia market. They are seeking a Procurement Specialist to support the country/region-wide sourcing activities for indirect materials to support the company’s business operations in this job.

About The Procurement Specialist Role

This position is responsible for working with a team of buyers and executives in daily procurement operations, ensuring favourable terms for the company, compliance with purchasing policies and regulations, and supporting business strategies for success

Key Responsibilities

  • Achieve and surpass key performance indicators (KPIs) and targets, both quantitative and qualitative, while taking responsibility for assigned improvement initiatives
  • Manage and lead subordinates to ensure effective task execution, meeting individual, team, and departmental KPIs, and contribute to continuous employee development
  • Build and empower the team to excel in structured procurement, driving initiatives for cost optimisation, value creation, and continuous improvements in efficiency and productivity
  • Lead and promote structured procurement practices, sharing best practices within the business unit, engaging stakeholders in category strategies that align with business objectives
  • Drive and implement cost optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives, introducing category management principles and developing local implementation plans to meet business unit needs
  • Oversee and ensure successful execution of sourcing, supplier management, and governance activities, monitoring progress and completion of each task
  • Monitor, measure, and communicate the execution of agreed category strategies, milestone achievements, and market developments that impact or benefit the business unit
  • Continuously identify and establish process, policy, and local standard requirements to enhance cross-functional collaboration with stakeholders at the business unit and regional levels
  • Ensure consistent implementation of company values, business principles, policies, and best practices in procurement processes, acting as a focal point for cross-functional engagement and implementation
  • Represent the Procurement Manager in management meetings and engagements with internal and external stakeholders as needed

To succeed in this Procurement Specialist role, you will need to have solid experience in executing procurement activities in indirect spend category.

Key Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field of study
  • Proficient in leading tender processes, negotiations, and contracts for medium to complex categories, with a minimum transaction value of RM 5 million and a combined value of RM 30 million
  • Demonstrated track record of at least five years in achieving outstanding results in indirect material procurement.
  • Extensive expertise in structured procurement, proficient in end-to-end supply chain management, and has a thorough understanding of best procurement practices in Malaysia
  • Hands-on experience in driving purchasing transformation, digitisation, and change initiatives at the national level
  • Adaptable to ambiguous environments and excels in delivering results and potentially conflicting interests
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, adept at building relationships, influencing stakeholders, and collaborating with individuals at all levels internally and externally
