Job Description

A large local conglomerate is seeking a Head of Sustainability to be based in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), this role will centralise and lead all initiatives across the group in tandem with group objectives and ESG commitments.

About The Head Of Sustainability Role

As the Head of Sustainability, you are responsible for engaging with both internal and external stakeholders, providing educational and guidance how each stakeholders department plays an essential part in fulfil ESG commitment. You will develop and work with a team of energetic and passionate team to push ESG agendas to all employees on how they can play an active role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify important issues for the group and inform/educate employees about sustainability/ESG topics
  • Conduct on-site audits/visits to monitor progress and ensure quality standards in sustainability practices
  • Develop, supervise, and oversee sustainability frameworks, projects, and goals in areas such as reducing CO2 emissions (GHG), water usage, plastics, and waste
  • Actively engage and form effective partnerships with external organisations (government bodies, NGOs, trade associations, conferences) to support sustainability efforts
  • Provide structured monthly progress reports on each project and deliver necessary sustainability reports to management or the board
  • Define and review policies and procedures related to sustainability as required
  • Identify collaborative opportunities, cross-industry initiatives, and stakeholder-driven platforms and projects to advance the strategy
  • Promote a culture of sustainability through ongoing communication and education throughout the group

In order for you to excel in this role, background practising sustainability (sustainability reporting, executing programme) in various capacity with brand owner, manufacturer, NGO, certification body, etc. Experience leading a team is crucial.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or professional degree from a reputable university in any field or equivalent
  • At least five years of relevant work experience in a sustainability position
  • Experience in a publicly listed company or an IPO environment is advantageous
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to influence key stakeholders
  • Demonstrated effective stakeholder management and able to establish positive relationships with external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of ESG-related certifications and assessments such as ISO14001, ISO45001, and ILO is a plus
  • Familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks like GRI, IFRS, SASB, SBTi, and TCFD
